  • What are some of the most essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes that learners in my department/program needs to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care?
  • Are there opportunities for us to improve our interpersonal communication with patients?

Exercise

Using the tools from standardized patient case development module, create an SP case. If you completed the “Overview of Simulation Training” module, use the goals and objectives you already developed.

Think about:

  • Learner demographics
  • Time allotment (include pre-event work and orientation, encounter time, and post encounter time)
  • How to present key information about your patient and their situation
  • Case Description:
    • Doorway information
    • Opening statement
    • Case content and patient presentation (history, physical exam, personality, and communication)
    • SP response to key questions or communication challenges
    • Post encounter work
  • Student feedback
    • SP checklist
    • SP feedback
    • Key points to be addressed in debriefing
